Laughing

To dream that you are laughing represents feelings about finding a situation amusing, absurd, ironic, or easier to accept than you previously thought. Surprise that a problem, fear, or challenge doesn't matter as much as you once believed. Ideas, behavior, or situations that you (or others) feel are ridiculous or unrealistic. Feeling that you can't take a situation or another person seriously anymore. Total confidence that you don't have to worry anymore. Feeling good that life is working out better than expected. A release of tension after worrying about something. Recognizing the humor in mistakes or problems.

Negatively, dreaming of hearing laughter represents mockery, ridicule, disrespect, or enjoying another person's embarrassment, weakness, or misfortune. Feeling that other people are not taking you seriously or embarrassing you for your actions or ideas. Feeling that someone is ridiculing you or making you feel stupid. Feeling mocked or that people are secretly laughing at you. Being made a fool of. A fear of being humiliated. Insensitively enjoying the feeling that you are better than other people. Enjoying others' misery. Situations where you feel embarrassed by the reality that certain ideas you have are ridiculous or unrealistic.

Example: A man dreamed of hearing people laugh when he asked them if it was ever possible to be with a girl he liked. In waking life, he soon realized that being with the girl he liked was impossible and even ridiculous because she was too old. In this case, hearing people laugh at him may have reflected his feelings about recognizing how foolish or nave he may seem to other people if the reality of her age was ever discussed.

Example 2: A woman dreamed of a shark laughing at her. In waking life, she felt that co-workers weren't taking her difficulties seriously. In this case, the shark laughing at her may have reflected her feelings about co-workers who were more ruthless, insensitive, or self-interested than she was about getting ahead at work, making her feel that her struggles, concerns, or setbacks were being mocked because they only cared about success and saw her difficulties as weakness.

Example 3: A man dreamed of being half-eaten by a shark and then laughing about it. In waking life, he was humiliated at a party, but then recovered and felt better about it later on. In this case, laughing after being half eaten by a shark may have reflected feelings about realizing that the social humiliation and damage to his confidence weren't as serious or permanent as they first seemed, allowing him to lighten up, accept what happened, and see the absurdity of continuing to worry about it.

Example 4: A young man dreamed of all his clothes, except his underwear, falling off in front of his mother who laughed at him. In waking life, he felt that he needed to lighten up and be less serious about himself.

Example 5: A young woman dreamed of her ex-boyfriend's father laughing at her. In waking life, she felt that people were enjoying her misfortunes.

Example 6: A woman dreamed of seeing her sister laugh at her with an evil laugh. In waking life, she felt her sister was mocking her religious views and her church when she tried to speak to her about attending church.

Example 7: A girl dreamed of running away from her boyfriend and then giving up and starting to laugh with him. In waking life, she had a big fight with her boyfriend which caused them to end the relationship and then later made up and resumed dating. In this case, laughing with her boyfriend may have reflected her feelings about realizing that their conflict was not as serious or relationship-ending as it initially seemed, allowing both of them to lighten up, let go of their anger, and see the absurdity of continuing to take the argument so seriously.
