DREAM ENHANCERS

There are number of options available to help enhance the dreaming experience using vitamin supplements, dietary changes, and electronic devices.  Most are easily available at your local health food store or off the Internet. Others may be illegal in your jurisdiction.

Please realize that each person's needs are different and not everyone is going to respond the same way to each method of dream enhancement. Experiment as comfort and safety permits.  Please do some research before ingesting any of these substances.

VITAMIN SUPPLEMENTS

Galantamine - Galantamine is by far the king of dream enhancement supplements. Mostly used to treat Alzheimer's patients to boost brain function, it has become a favorite of lucid dreamers and is perfectly safe. The reason for its superior results is that it slows the breakdown of acetylcholine in the brain which is the main chemical responsible for successful dreaming. It often obtains its best results when combined with choline, pantothenic acid (b5) or vitamin b6 which some companies include in the pills.

Huperzine A - Huperzine A works much the same as Galantamine.  It is a much cheaper alternative, but may require you to take more of it.     TOP

Choline - Choline is the substance in the brain that is largely responsible for dreaming. A lack of acetylcholine will make dreams less vivid and the possibility of a lucid dream less likely.  Many vitamins that enhance dreaming help to increase acetylcholine in the brain.  We personally recommend Citicoline over other types of choline  TOP

Vitamin B6 - Vitamin B6 is widely known as the dream vitamin. It's perfectly safe taken in doses from 50mg to 300mg and can dramatically improve your dreams. Most sources claim B6 increases serotonin, but what it may actually be doing is improving detoxification and digestion and eliminating interference of toxins with the acetylcholine that your brain uses to dream.  TOP

Vitamin B5 - Vitamin B5, or pantothenic acid, is a cofactor (helper nutrient) to the body's production of acetylcholine.  Many people who take B5 report increased dreaming.  TOP

L-Glutamine - L-Glutamine is used by the brain for fuel. It's converted into glutamic acid and GABA which are helpful for cerebral function. Besides improving your dreams, it will also improve your mood and speed healing in your body. You take 500mg to 5G in a glass of water on an empty stomach 30 minutes before you eat or 3 hours after a meal.   TOP

Ginkgo Biloba - Ginkgo Biloba increases blood flow to the brain, and enhances memory.  TOP

Melatonin - Melatonin is a hormone your body produces to induce sleep, and many people claim that it causes more vivid dreams. Some people report really good dreams with melatonin when mixed with valerian root and vitamin b6.   TOP

Other supplements that help are: GABA, 5-HTP, L-Tyrosine, Valerian Root , Gotu Kola, Molybdenum, Turmeric, Pantathine (Co-Enzyme A), Picamilon, Piracetam, Mugwort, Mullein, Kava Kava, Dittany of Crete, St. Johns Wort, Calea Zacatechichi, Scutellaria Indica, Vervain, Jasmine, Honeysuckle, Datura, Bee Pollen, Hops, Scullcap, Mimosa, Lavender, Damiana, Withania Somnifera, Passionflower, Chamomile, Cardamom, Verbena, Rose, Cinnamon, Marigold, Nutmeg, Peppermint, Holly, Yarrow and Anise, Nicotine Patches, African Dream Root (Silene Capensis), and Chanca Piedra.    TOP

Dietary Changes

Since certain chemicals are needed by our brains in order to dream, food is probably the most influential factor in dreaming.  Shamans from around the world commonly make dietary recommendations to assist in dreams and visions during spiritual ceremonies.  These changes can also be used by regular people who want to dream more.

The changes include avoiding diary products, increasing protein intake, removing fats from seeds & oils, removing fermented foods, and having fruit or fruit juice with dinner or before bed.

Other people commonly make claims that bananas, peanut butter, or chocolate assist in having more vivid dreams.

Apple Juice - Apple juice ingested before bed or in the middle of the night is helpful in stimulating dreams for some people. Some studies claim it's due to apple juice increasing the level of acetylcholine in the brain.   TOP

Millet - Cooked millet that's been frozen and then thawed.  For some reason cooking millet, freezing it, and then thawing it seems to increase the amount of dream enhancing nutrients it has.  Millet is already loaded with b-vitamins so it's most likely that the freezing and thawing damages the millet and somehow makes these b-vitamins more bioavailable.    TOP

Electronic Devices

Bio Tuner (BT7) From Sota Instruments - The Bio Tuner is a relaxation product that stimulates your brain by inputting harmonic frequencies using an small electric current.  Not only does it make a big difference with dreaming, but it will help with stress, sleep, anxiety, and addiction.  Sota Instruments    TOP

Magnetic Pulser From Sota Instruments
- The Magnetic Pulser when used on the head will stimulate blood flow and increase oxygen to the brain. When used before bed it will assist with sleeping, and help you to have more vivid dreams.  Sota Instruments    TOP

Mind Machines (Proteus, etc.) - Mind Machines or Light And Sounds Devices are excellent at assisting in more vivid dreams, and as sleeping aids. The Procyon from Mind Machines is one the most popular and effective of these devices.    TOP

Violet Ray Machine - A violet ray machine when used on the scalp helps increase vivd dreaming by stimulating the brain. It seems to be more effective when special attention is paid to the eyebrows and the back of the head.    TOP

Brain Wave Audio Entrainment - Listening to Brain Wave Audio before bed is an excellent way to enhance dreaming, although it may take some experimenting before you to find the presets that work best for you. You can find reliable software and free downloads at www.bwgen.com and everything you create can be copied to Ipods or burned onto CDs.    TOP

Hallucinogenic Substances

Ayahuasca - Ayahuasca is the most powerful hallucinogenic substance known to man and can induce some of the most incredible visions and dreams you will ever have. The experience for many can be compared to dreaming while awake.  It's reputation for total spiritual transformation is unmatched.

Ayahuasca is illegal in the western world and is something you will have to travel to South America to take.  Ayahuasca usually induces vomiting and is totally non-addictive.

We personally recommend SpiritVine.net.  You will never find a place more relaxed, safe, and beautiful.  You will also be watched over by a licensed psychotherapist during all ceremonies.      TOP

Salvia Divanormum - Salvia Divanormum is a very powerful herb that assists in visions and dreams. However, it's effect is usually very short and sometimes renders a person into a state of mind where they are awake, but totally unconscious. For this reason it's recommend that you never taken Salvia alone and have someone ready to hold you down once your state of consciousness changes.

Saliva is legal in much of the western world, but that is slowly changing in places where it's being abused.    TOP

Magic Mushrooms / Shrooms - Illegal in the western world, magic mushrooms are one of the most powerful hallucinogens.  The high is generally more visual and colorful than ayahuasca while never feeling overpowered by the spirituality of the experience.

If you are going to take mushrooms or any hallucinogenic substance we encourage you to use the experience for research and personal growth.  Recreational use is not recommended.  Best taken in large doses on an empty stomach while alone in a safe dark place.

For more information on magic mushroom use look into the research of Terence McKenna. His youtube videos are very entertaining.    TOP

Lucid Dream Techniques

There are techniques that many experienced lucid dreamers use to increase their chances of having a lucid dream that can be researched on the Internet. These include MILD, WILD, DILD, WBTB, CAT, DEILD, and Reality Checks.

Most of these techniques are less effective than vitamins and dietary changes which are more than sufficient to enhance the dreaming experience.  Our personal opinion is that for the average person these lucid dream techniques are a waste of time or simply too stressful due to the interference with sleep cycles.

Lucid dreaming techniques are also a waste of time because they overlook the reality that dreams are a metaphorical language.  What most lucid dreamers are actually experiencing when they claim to control their dreams is God informing them that they are wasting their time trying to control their dreams for leisure instead of trying to talk to him.  Basically, a lucid dreamer who tries to force a dream is actually wasting all their time trying to get God to say a word with a symbol for personal enjoyment because they don't understand the language.   TOP

Other Alternatives

Sleeping On Your Back - When you sleep on your back you remove the pressure that's being placed on your digestive system.  This reduction in pressure allows your body to process toxicity with increased efficiency and reduces toxic interference with acetylcholine that your brain uses to dream.    TOP

Writing Dreams Down
- A lot of people find that when you write your dreams down you begin to remember them better.    TOP

Digital Audio Recorder - Sleeping with a digital audio recorder can be one of the most effective ways to document your dreams. A recorder can help you to record the dreams immediately upon waking so you get everything while it's still fresh in your mind.

It's recommended you buy a cheap recorder with simple buttons that are easily to use in the dark. The expensive recorders can be too difficult to operate with all the extra features such as the SONY ICD-P620 which is not made by Sony anymore, but still available online on Ebay.    TOP
